Helen Ruth Hamm Turner passed from this life on 27 Dec 2012 in Fort Collins, Co. She was born on 8 March 1954 in Winston Salem, NC. She lived most of her youth in North Carolina. Helen graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in education. She worked for Franklin Insurance Company, living in Texas. She was an avid bowler, participating in Women International Bowling Congress tournaments until her knees started to bother her. Helen spent 5 years in the U. S. Army. During that time she was stationed at a number of locations, including Italy and Germany. While stationed at Fort Derrick, MD she was reenlisted by her father-in-law (COL Roy Young). She was married in Fredrick, MD in 1988 to Douglas Turner. A year later, in 1989, she had her daughter Caitlin Turner in Washington D.C. After leaving the Army, she lived in Riverdale, MD from 1991-1993, and Albuquerque, NM from 1993 to 1995, Olive Branch, MS from 1995 to 2012, and Loveland, CO July 1, 2012. Helen is a fan of the Atlanta Braves. She worked for IBM/TSS as a course developer and instructor since Nov 1995. During this time she had the pleasure of traveling to Singapore to give classes for IBM, as well as many USA locations. Helen was a band parent during the time her daughter was in high school band. She traveled as a chaperon on several trips to band competitions. She hosted a movie night for her friends once a month with a pot luck meal that she had a great time doing and being with all of her friends. Helen is survived by Doug (husband) and Caitlin (daughter) Turner, Wayne (brother) and Ann (sister-in-law) Hamm; and numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her weekly phone calls with her Aunt Joyce. She is preceded in death by her mother, China Hamm (Mama Hamm) and her father, Carman Hamm. Services were held at Santa Fe National Cemetery Friday 11 Jan 2013.
