Nash Hardy

Nash Eugene Hardy, Jr., age 82, of Winston-Salem, husband of Julia Parsons Hardy, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 in Palliative Care at Baptist Hospital. Nash was born in Nash County, NC on April 25, 1928. He moved to Reidsville, NC in 1931 and graduated from Reidsville High School in 1946. He attended Elon College from 1946-1950 where he majored in mathematics and played football. After graduation from Elon, Nash served in the U.S. Army until 1952. He then moved to Winston-Salem and was a school teacher at Reynolds High School, attended UNC-Chapel Hill and received his masters degree in Educational Administration. He served as principal at Whitaker Elementary School, Wiley Junior High, Mount Tabor High School and South Fork Elementary School. Nash was the first principal at Mount Tabor High School in 1966 and was principal until 1984. He retired August 1, 1988 (best day of his life) after 36 years of service. Nash was a charter member of the Twin City Sertoma Club, Ardmore Community Club and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. Above all, Nash thoroughly enjoyed the zest of life, friends, family and most of all, his wife Judy. He was also an avid Tar Heel fan (GO HEELS!) and golfer with his “Over The Hill Gang”. Nash is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; his two sons: Nash Hardy, III, of Fuquay-Varina, Martin Hardy and his wife, Lisa Hardy, of Chapel Hill; his granddaughter, Holland Claire Hardy, of Fuquay-Varina, and his brother, James H. Hardy and his wife, Beth Hardy, of Reidsville. A memorial service was held July 6, at Centenary United Methodist Church.
